Research Interests

Our laboratory team is involved with discovery and pre-clinical characterization of bioactive plant compounds with benefits for human health, including hypoglycemic and adaptogenic properties, or prophalaxis against malaria.  Dereplication, structural characterization, and synthetic lead optimization.  We conduct parallel extraction/fractionation of bioactive phytochemicals (phytopharmaceuticals) from in vivo fruit or vegetative tissues, and in vitro cell and root cultures, with particular interest in food crops.   Bioactivity assessment in vitro and in vivo; bioactivity-guided fractionation aimed to assess interactions within phytochemical mixtures.
